Welcome to the fourth and final episode of "Voices of DePoly" for 2024. In this series, we unveil the stories behind the faces driving innovation at DePoly. Ever wanted to know how it feels to be part of the team, daily routines and what got them to join DePoly in the first place? For this last episode of 2024, we are excited to introduce Hale Bila – Head of Quality Assurance, as she takes us on a journey through her role and what it means for her “The heart of quality is the continuous improvement!”
Who are you, and what is your background?
I am Hale, originally from Turkey. I am a chemist by training. I have a PhD degree in Materials Science and Engineering from EPFL. After finishing my PhD studies, I joined DePoly as Head of Quality and am leading quality activities at DePoly.
How did you hear about DePoly?
I knew Sam Anderson and Chris Ireland from EPFL before they co-founded DePoly with Bardiya Valizadeh. I was following them on LinkedIn and was always impressed by the revolutionary technology that they developed. One day Sam contacted me and told me about this position. After couple of interviews, I ended up moving to Sion!
How long have you been with DePoly?
I have been working at DePoly for 2.5 years. I was the second employee hired working in DePoly’s research lab. I built the QC laboratory together with Chris. It is really nice to witness the growth of the company every day.
What do you do on a daily basis? What does a day in your shoes look like?
My main focus is to ensure delivering high quality product to our customers, manage my team for process improvement by identifying areas for improvement in production or operational processes. I also support R&D and engineering teams in their daily activities. Additionally, I oversee the establishment of QMS at DePoly.
What do you like about your job? For example specific tasks or projects
The heart of quality is the continuous improvement! There is plenty of room for improvement. Every day we improve with my team. Two years ago, we did not even have a QC laboratory, now I am looking where we are, and it is really impressive. I think this is what I enjoy the most!
What brings you motivation in your activities?
Great members of Depoly from all over the world with different backgrounds for the same goal!
Any advice for potential future DePoly employees?
You learn a lot at DePoly! Not only about chemical recycling, but also about investors, fundraising, scaling up etc. etc. You have the opportunity to experience different tasks with different people. I would say try to experience as much as possible, because you have the opportunity to do so here!
What would you tell your younger self from 3 years ago, knowing what you know today?
Never say never!I would not imagine myself living in Sion (did not have the best experience with Sion before). But definitely, my opinion about Sion changed a lot after joining DePoly. 😊
And keep dreaming! The sky is the limit.
DePoly’s technology recycles unsorted, dirty PET waste into virgin-grade raw materials. Those PET precursors, PTA and MEG, are used by the industry to produce new plastics without the need for fossil fuels, while diverting valuable materials from landfills and incineration.
